DescriptionJade Fon was a Northern California watercolor artist based in the East Bay area. He taught many art students to paint watercolors on location and spent a great deal of time producing California Scene paintings of the San Francisco and Oakland regions. By the 1960's, the Port of Oakland was dominating the commercial shipping business in that region. Right in the middle of the Oakland waterfront was Jack London Square where artists often exhibited their art. Jade Fon was one of those artists and he often exhibited works depicting Oakland waterfront scenes. This watercolor was inspired by a scene of the section of the harbor where containers were unloaded from the barges and large ocean ships designed especially to ship that form of cargo.
