DescriptionOtto Schneider, born in Muscatine, Iowa, studied at the Art Students League in New York before moving to Paris to study at the Académie Julian. He returned to the U.S. to teach at the Buffalo Art Students League for two years, then moved to San Diego in 1926, where he joined the faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts and remained there, teaching until his death in 1950. His sojourn in France led to a period in which he painted European scenes in evocative Impressionist style; later in his career he turned to a bolder, heavier brushstroke of great vigor and vitality, as in this painting of railroad workers. On View
