DescriptionMiniature trains have operated in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park since the 1940s – precursors of the many and varied train rides visitors can enjoy in the park today via Travel Town, the L.A. Zoo Choo Choo, the Griffith Park & Southern railway and others. Here, John Bohnenberger portrays one of these family-favorite rides. Bohnenberger was born in Chicago and moved to California with his family when he was 14. After serving in the Army, he returned to live in California, where he worked for many years as a government employee but made plenty of time to paint. His paintings of harbors and regional cityscapes brought him many awards, but other subjects – including a series of California suburban neighborhood scenes – have also received much attention.
