DescriptionIn the 1940s there were still many people in Southern California who did not own an automobile. For them, public transportation -- especially the bus and train systems -- was the only way they could travel long distances. This scene of people waiting for the next train was very typical of that time and serves to remind us of an era gone by.Mondrus received his MFA in 1955 from Claremont Graduate School and exhibited widely in California and elsewhere in the United States. His paintings and prints can be found in many private and public collections, including the Downey Art Museum, the Skirball Museum and Gardena High School, as well as in the Hilbert Collection.
