DescriptionIs That The Same Kid?

I like to make artwork that has multiple layers of meaning and subjects.
And I like to ask my collectors to look again.

In the realm of "Is that the Same Kid?" my obsession with glare is on display once again.
Yet, the titled subject cannot be seen.
This painting is a portrait of my son Liam. Who is absent from the visual frame.
Only the surfers depicted in the painting can see him just beyond the leftward frame.

This painting not only captures the essence of surf culture, portraying the luminous and breathtaking Rincon beach in California, but it reveals my son's relentless pursuit, his eagerness to catch each wave, to drink deep of life’s beauty.

Those surfers I painted that day, were standing there asking the question: “Who is that guy!!??” “Is that the same kid?” “Again?”

This painting is a portrait of joy.
This painting is an invitation to grab hold, with both hands, every moment of joy that can be had in this life.

This moment in time inspired me to paint AND to be thankful for every good moment that comes our way.
