DescriptionEinar Cortsen Petersen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1885. He served an art apprenticeship prior to obtaining a scholarship from the Danish government in 1900 which allowed him to study art for several years in Paris, Rome and Munich. In 1912, he came to the United States. In addition to painting landscapes and still lifes, he worked his way across the country painting decorative panels. In 1916, he settled in Los Angeles as an interior decorator. Although his work was mostly landscapes of Southern California, he often accepted commissions to paint mural panels, including locales such as the University Club, the Boos Brothers Cafeteria and the Hotel Rosslyn. In 1928, he painted a mural for Honolulu City Hall in Hawaii. Einar Petersen died in Hollywood, California in 1986.
