DescriptionThe famous Newport Beach Pier becomes a structure composed of raw geometry, interesting angles, sunlight and shadows in the hands of Roger Kuntz, one of the most celebrated artists to ever emerge from the Claremont colleges and the Laguna art colony. Kuntz is best known for his “Freeway Series” of paintings that focus on the abstract qualities of freeway architecture, begun in 1959. Kuntz moved from Claremont to Laguna Beach in 1963, where he taught painting at the newly established Laguna Beach School of Art and Design. During his years in Laguna, Kuntz completed series of paintings of the Goodyear blimp, tennis scenes, and local beach landmarks, as well as bronze and ceramic sculptures. On View
