DescriptionDuring World War II, gas masks were distributed throughout California for people worried about chemical attacks. Dong Kingman became fascinated with this imagery and began placing gas masks on the figures in his paintings. He also began painting bizarre animal-like figures walking erect like humans. This work features both of those elements and is the type of painting that made Kingman famous in the United States and Hong Kong.
