DescriptionAlameda Street was one of the first streets to run south of the Old Plaza in Los Angeles and into the area where the main downtown was eventually built. It ran parallel with the Los Angeles River and provided roadway access to the many fruit farms and factories that were built along the street. By the 1930s the orange groves were gone and the main train station was accessed by using Alameda Street. With the railroad tracks being right there, it encouraged more factories and commercial buildings. The Eastside Brewery, Los Angeles Gas Works and many smaller factories were in full production. This watercolors captures what that area of Los Angeles looked like in 1947, just before the 101 Freeway was built.On View
