DescriptionOil production has long been a major industry in L.A. County. The earliest commercial wells in the American West were at Pico Canyon (1870s) near Santa Susana and the Los Angeles City Oil Fields (1902). The Los Angeles City field was a four-mile section just north of downtown L.A. This watercolor depicts a section of that oil production area. Additionally, major L.A. County oil fields were established in Long Beach, Venice, and Santa Fe Springs.
