DescriptionCalifornia artist Irv Wyner was an accomplished artist that made a living painting watercolor backgrounds for animated cartoons and animated feature films in Hollywood. In his spare time he also produced watercolor paintings for gallery sales and exhibition. Most of his fine art paintings were produced using transparent watercolors and ink. He often soaked the watercolor paper in water before painting on it, which produced soft fuzzy edges and was especially well suited for painting skies and water. This process is called painting “wet into wet”. After the wet areas dried he worked back into the paintings and used sharper fine brush lines to outline objects for clarity or add details that would make the subject matter easily recognizable. This painting is a night scene, with a black sky, most likely painted with a mixture of watercolor and black India ink. Wyner’s night scenes were some of the most engaging fine art works he produced.
