DescriptionWhen Eugene Clay was a child he became fascinated with aviation and especially with old time double wing airplanes. In the 1930's when he was studying art in Claremont, he spent a lot of time visiting a small airport in Pomona where old time crop duster airplanes flew. It was also possible to take flying lessons or pay to take a ride in an open cockpit airplane. Clay flew these planes and also did paintings of them. This is a classic Clay painting depicting a scene where advertisements were being dropped on a Main St. town to advertise an air show that was coming to the area. The flyers let people know they could pay to take a ride in an airplane or just watch the wild stunts they performed including wing walking.
