DescriptionEjnar Hansen was born in Denmark, where, as a young artist, he greatly admired Edvard Munch and became a member of De Trotten (The Thirteen), a secessionist group. Hansen immigrated to the United States in 1914, settling for a while in the Midwest before moving to Pasadena in 1924. He was an extremely versatile artist, utilizing watercolor, oils and various printing methods for his portraits, landscapes and figural compositions. In this lithograph, sent to Arthur Millier as a Christmas card in 1945, we see Hansen’s depiction of the Old Testament patriarch Noah, standing at the prow of the ark and thanking God as he receives the dove and olive branch that signify dry land.
