DescriptionArtist statement on series (from artist's website): SHE WAS JUST A DREAM (2014-present), a series of paintings in oil on canvas, is about memory, loss and illusion evoking a sense of nostalgia and longing in the viewer. These works distort space, light, and distance to create an altered, disoriented, and sometimes unfamiliar version of a “remembered place.” A place first experienced will often appear different upon your return. Because memory is changeable and fleeting, reality also becomes unreliable.

Like Edward Hopper these urban landscapes create a desolate space devoid of human response. Many of the works contain what appears to be a piece discarded clothing, as if someone was there but has now disappeared. The object of the painting “she” is absent in the abandoned landscape. She has left a garment behind and symbolically also something of herself. The viewer and the absent female are now separated from the “remembered place” with only the illusion of their memories.
