DescriptionCalifornia painter Richard Haines was a highly respected artist and teacher who lived in Santa Monica. Around 1950 to 1970, he received acclaim for his abstract paintings that utilize low key colors and often deal with somber subject matter. "Drawing Lots" is atypical for Haines, yet it is visually engaging, well-painted, with a fun composition and pleasing color palette.
