DescriptionAlex Ignatiev was best known for his many works depicting everyday street scenes in Los Angeles and vicinity. He would often draw the basic image with the thick dark line that a Wolf pencil or crayon would produce. He would then colorize the drawing using watercolors or an opaque water based gouache. Bunker Hill was a favorite place he liked to draw, as there were many old style wooden homes that varied in architecture from California Bungalow style to ornate Victorian era structures. This work is typical of the California Scene Paintings of the Bunker Hill area he produced in the 1950's and early 1960's. This was just before that area was demolished as part of a Los Angeles City renovation project that made additional room in the downtown area to develop high rise commercial buildings.
