Grace Marion Brownearly 20th century
Brown was a member of a circle of creative Los Angeles intellectuals who banded together to publish a magazine called Opinion. Married to bookseller Louis Samuels, who ran the Penguin Bookshop on Wilshire Boulevard, Brown also designed small-press books, including "Summer Denial," a book of poems by Madeleine Ruthven. She would later contribute art to "Touring Topics," the magazine of the Automobile Club of Southern California (which became "Westways" in 1934).
