Hugh Duncan (1924-2001) Born: Glendale, CA; Studied: School of Allied Arts (Glendale), Art Center School (Los Angeles), Chouinard Art Institute (Los Angeles); Member: Watercolor West. Hugh Duncan grew up in Southern California and studied watercolor painting with Charles Payzant, Ralph Hulett, Arthur Beaumont and Rex Brandt. After World War II, he began exhibiting his fine art watercolors and working as a commercial illustrator in the Los Angeles area. Duncan was an avid sailing enthusiast most of his life and his watercolors often depict sailboats racing offshore or cruising in California harbors. In addition, he taught watercolor painting at workshops in Southern California since the 1970’s.
