DescriptionArtist Statement:As a goldsmith and jewelry designer I spent years making beautiful objects of adornment. Now working as a mixed media artist, it occurred to me that I could have a voice. I made the decision to use that voice to speak about the environment in which I live. Orange County California where there are no longer oranges. The orange, the perfect sphere became my muse. The oranges (nature) and houses (humans) are in conflict. My artistic style is orderly and precise with a touch of sarcasm and whimsy. Creating this series has also provided me an opportunity to dive into California history. As a nature lover I appreciate that the allure of California was its natural beauty. The smell of the orange groves is steeped in people’s memories. Today farms, orchards and open spaces are being replaced by housing tracts and massive apartment complexes at an alarming rate. We are covering the earth in concrete, buildings and freeways. On View
