DescriptionAnaheim’s Red Cross House occupies a deserving spot – it is at 418 West Street, next door to the historic Mother Colony House.

This charming turreted, ginger breaded, two-story Victorian structure was built by John Woelke for his family in 1894 at Harbor Blvd. and Lincoln (then called Center Street) in Anaheim. Later residents included Isaac Lyons and Peter Stoffels. The Stoffels lived there until it was purchased and moved to its present location by Mr. and Mrs. John J. Dwyer in 1950.

Dedicated as a landmark on July 16, 1950 by the Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West, the house was furnished for this event with donated antiques collected by the DAR. An old wine press which was used in the mid-1800s was set up in the barn. The Dwyers presented the home to the Res Cross in 1953 under a 20-year Trust Agreement (drawn by local attorney Leo J. Friis) which expired in April 1973.

The Anaheim Chapter was the first Red Cross chapter formed in Orange County (chartered in 1917). This lovely little house presently serves as the Red Cross center for the entire Anaheim area.
