DescriptionSince the early 1970s, Frank Romero has been recognized as an important and innovative California representational artist. He grew up in Boyle Heights and has often chosen to produce narrative visual images that convey experiences he and his Mexican American extended family and friends have been a part of all their lives. Romero became an active participant in the developing Chicano Movement in the 1970s as a founding member of the "Los Four" artists' collective. This view of the downtown L.A. freeways at night showcases Romero's fascination with the bustling beauty of his home town, and with car culture in general. Auto-related images are a recurring theme in his art.On View
