DescriptionKatherine Higgins, known as the “Angel of the Plaza” started Goodwill in 1916 in the Plaza Mexican Methodist Church at the old downtown L.A. plaza. They used burlap coffee sacks to gather up donations. This organization gave jobs to the poor and also provided low-priced items for the needy.
