DescriptionThis work was painted by Samerjan on location, with a palette knife and flashlight at night. Other major California Scene artists of the period, such as Millard Sheets and Phil Dike, used similar methods, and perhaps their works were inspirations for Samerjan. These paintings were typically created with wet-on-wet layers, spontaneously and without any sketch or underpainting. The very fluid, boldly colored and thickly applied paint – along with the somewhat abstract nature of this work – make it a standout in this genre. On View
