DescriptionMark Hilbert: “MacDonald-Wright spent time in Paris during the time that city was at the height of what was going on in the art world, and when artists there were advancing all kinds of new ideas in culture: cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Fauvism, etc. Here he uses some Fauvist ideas, I think, in this semi-abstract painting. The seashells are part of a still life that is very interesting and colorful. In 1922 there was a show of MacDonald-Wright’s work, in which he put forward the notion that certain colors correspond to certain musical notes –an idea that he dubbed ‘Synchromism.’ Another ‘-ism’ to add to all the other art world ‘-isms’!”On View
