DescriptionMark Hilbert: “This reminds me a little of a Gauguin, with the colors and forms. But the figures also have a bit of a Diego Rivera-like feel to them. There’s a certain emotional feeling to this piece, with the figures seated so close together, rendered in red and black. Dorr Bothwell was a member of the Bay Area Surrealism movement and was a world traveler – at one point in the 1920s, she even became the adopted daughter of a Samoan chief.”
